5 Unexpected Benefits of Being Ignored

Being ignored by someone sucks.
It really hurts to be not given any kind of attention from a person you thought to be a part of your life.

This person ignoring you could be your friend, co-worker, romantic partner or even just an acquaintance. When you invest yourself in any kind of a relationship, you automatically expect the same kind of reciprocation.

It hurts when you know you have done nothing wrong or have tried to make things work only to get no response at all.
Even after your deliberate attempts at communicating with them, you get ignored - they don’t talk to you or get in touch with you.

They could have their reasons to ignore you and you respect that, but that doesn't change the way you feel about being ignored.

However, if you focus on the benefits of being ignored, it becomes easier to move on and ease the pain.

So if you feel really upset about being ignored, here are 5 benefits of being ignored:

1. You are free from their negativity.

It is possible that the person ignoring you has some preconceived notions about you, which are making them ignore you. Well, if that is the case, it is better that you stay away from them. It is better to remove such negativity from your life than to allow it and end up feeling worse about yourself.

Also, it could be that they don’t want anything to do with you anymore. It can be really hard to accept this fact when you didn’t expect such kind of behavior, but it is ultimately better for you that you don’t go after them begging for an explanation. Instead, you can simply just move on with your life.

2. You have fewer people to worry about.

Less people = less drama. When you have fewer people to deal with, it can actually be an advantage.
Socializing is fun and games but a lot of times it leads to a lot of unnecessary drama and expectations.

If this person doesn’t want to interact with you, you are free from their drama as well. You don't have to deal with their problems or do them any favors anymore. As a result, you only focus on things that are truly important to you.

3. You foster better relationships with people who actually cherish your company.

You feel much happier when you shift your focus from the person ignoring you to people who appreciate you and love you for what you are. When you don’t whine about people ignoring you, you engage yourself by having fun with people who appreciate your company.

You become certain of who actually cares about you and who deserves to stay in your life. The people who are truly important and care about you will stay in your life irrespective of any misunderstandings or disagreements.

They will make the effort to even out things with you whenever you have any sort of disagreement. They won't just ignore you blatantly or disappear from your life. They will be there for you.

4. You realize that you don’t need other people's validation.

When you don’t overthink so much about being ignored, you realize how much you have grown as a person. You learn to get your life together and move on easily, despite any obstacles you face in your way.

You understand that ignoring you is that person's decision, which could be based on a lot of things, but it certainly doesn't mean that you aren't worthy people's attention or that you don't deserve their time.

You know you are worthy. And you don't let anyone else's indifference towards you affect your worth in any way.

5. You learn to love yourself more.

You learn to divert your focus into improving yourself and your well-being rather than thinking about the person ignoring you.

You learn to use your time to put more emphasis on your goals. Instead of wasting time on making sure you are well liked by absolutely everyone, you focus on your bettering yourself without worrying about what others will think of you.

It is definitely not easy to get over being ignored, but when you love yourself, feel good about your abilities and are aware of your strengths; you come out it, being stronger and you learn to deal with the similar situations better in the future.

  1. This post is sooo helpful!! I actually have a co-worker who I used to hang out with, and now she ignores me, because of a big misunderstanding. We used to be friends, and hang out outside of work. I apologized for the misunderstanding, but she basically “ghosted” me, which made me feel like crap, at first. But now, several months later, I’m starting to realize that I can’t trust her. And, if she doesn’t respect my boundaries, and if I can’t trust her, then why worry about it. I think this post is very valuable, because of the increase in ghosting, especially with online dating. Thank you for putting this into a healthy perspective!!

    1. You're right, if a person doesn't even bother to sort things out, then there is no point in trying to sustain that relationship. I'm so glad liked this post Rebecca! Thank you for stopping by. :)

    1. I know it can be hard to move on. Give it some time, try to focus on bettering yourself, and meet new people. Don't tie your self-worth to other people's opinions or actions. You will come out stronger :)
