How Complaining Prevents You From Reaching Your Goals

From minor inconveniences to daunting challenges, we come across many such situations in our lives where we end up complaining about things not going our way.

And, a lot of times we complain about trivial things without even realizing it.

It may feel good to vent and complain occasionally, but it doesn't do any good for your journey of achieving your goals.

Focusing on things that are not working clouds your judgment and stops you from making progress.

Complaining too much can have a negative impact on your life and prevent you from reaching your goals as:

1. Complaining leads to blaming others.

If you want to achieve your goals and live a fulfilling life, you must take complete responsibility for your life.

When you complain, you tend to blame others if something goes wrong and expect others to change.

However, when you adopt this mindset of taking responsibility for everything in your life, you tend to complain less and you're more likely to see worthwhile changes.

If you can do something about a situation, and if it's in your control, then do it.

Otherwise, let go.

There is no point in complaining about something that is not in your control.

Instead, you should focus on things that are in your control and the areas where you can make a difference.

2. You make excuses and provide justifications.

We often tend to justify our setbacks and make excuses through complaining. It prevents us from making progress because we are so focused on providing justification for the lack of results.

We tend to make excuses about how we're not able to achieve something because somebody else didn't do their job or we had to deal with something unnecessary and undesirable.

Complaining keeps us from seeing our own mistakes and correcting them.

Life is never perfect, and there will always be obstacles. Yet, you got to keep working through difficult situations with a positive mindset.

Things won't always work out exactly according to your plans.

At that moment, instead of complaining and making excuses for not taking action, you must learn to approach your situation with a different perspective.

3. Complaining wastes your time and ruins your mood.

Complaining negatively affects your productivity.

When you're so busy complaining, you won't be able to see the opportunities to make things better even when they are right in front of you.

It hinders you from getting the right perspective and finding solutions.

When you are so busy complaining about how nothing is working out, you lose focus on things that are truly important in your life.

And, when you lose focus, it is hard to stay motivated and work on your goals.

Also, not only constant complaining ruins your mood, it ruins the mood of people around you as well.

You end up being in a very negative atmosphere, created by you.

4. Once you start complaining, it's hard to stop.

Complaining and making excuses is easy, change is hard. That's why you would still choose to complain and stay unhappy rather than being uncomfortable and making a positive change.

Complaining feeds a lack mentality. You engage in negative thinking more often and find faults in everything.

Yes, negativity is inevitable, but you don't have to focus on it so much. Changing attitude is going to help you look at the positive aspects of things.

It goes without saying that having a positive mindset is extremely important in your journey of achieving your goals.

Complaining keeps you from feeling grateful for all the wonderful things in your life and this could be a big obstacle in your journey.

Avoid complaining and focus on positive approaches as much as possible.

Life is not easy. And complaining is only going to make everything seem worse. During tough times, instead of being negative, have faith in your abilities and try to make the most of the situation.

Focusing on the positives will make it easier for you to deal with such situations.

What are your thoughts on this? What can a person do to minimize complaining?

  1. Awesome post!! I know that when i am tired, when I don't get enough rest, I am more likely to complain. It is difficult to get enough rest, with our busy lifestyles. I hear that from a lot of people, particularly parents. Turing off the TV (and my phone :) by 9:00 pm helps me to unwind. And, I still enjoy reading paper books! I love to get lost in a good book. Reading about 1/2 hour before bed helps me to fall asleep, with reduces anxiety, and ultimately, complaining :)
