6 Things to consider when you’re being paranoid for not getting a text back.

Things to consider when you’re being paranoid for not getting a text back.
The means of communication have changed greatly.
We started with smoke signals, moved on to writing letters, then came the telegraphs, followed by telephones and then the revolutionary cell phones arrived, which eventually evolved into our favorite smartphones, coupled with the power of internet.
Now, we have an eclectic range of social media tools. Also, almost every social media has a messaging option, which got even more interesting when the seen feature was added. So now you know for sure that the receiver got the message and read it. You automatically expect a reply from them when they have seen the text. But when they don’t, it makes you PARANOID.

being paranoid
It makes you even madder when you see them being active on social media yet they still don't reply to your text.
It’s usually caused by one of or all the reasons below-
  • You seek approval from people. Or expect too much.
  • You tend to overthink things.
  • You’re probably insecure. You think you’re not important to them.

Thoughts like- “Do they not have even few seconds to reply me?! What difference would it make if they just acknowledged they got the text, or say they are busy and would talk later” Crowd your mind.

You need to remember that the expectations you have from someone may not match with the expectations they have from you. Everybody has a different thought process. Their reaction to a particular event might be different than yours. Your opinions are yours, the same way other people’s opinions are theirs.
So what can you do to ease this distressing feeling that you can’t seem to get rid of?

Below are few possibilities to consider when you’re being crazy for not getting a text back.

#1: Even if you think you know the person really well, think again-it might not be so. They may have different approaches to things than you.

#2: It’s not a big deal. It’s just a text. Sure, we have grown accustomed to texting and it has become a major form of communication, but it can never takeover face to face interaction. You can’t exactly figure out what the other person is thinking or perceiving just by looking at a few words. Nothing can actually beat face to face interaction.

#3: Try to understand that people have different priorities. You need to recognize the fact they process their lives differently. Things that you consider important may not be that valuable to other people.

#4: They simply forgot; I know it sounds demeaning, especially when you thought you were important to this person, but people get preoccupied with so many things and sometimes they have to deal with so much shit, that replying to a text might be at the bottom of their to-do list.

#5: They probably want to craft a good message, or they simply don’t know what to say. Things aren’t as complicated as we make them be.
There could be a dozen other possibilities, causing them to not text back. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the worst case scenario.

#6: When everything else fails, if you’re still paranoid, thinking they’re ignoring you- just ignore them back. You can probably send them another text, but if you don’t seem to get a text back, you don’t want to seem desperate by bothering them too much- just ignore them. It might seem a difficult thing to do, but you have to engage yourself in other things that you enjoy so that you stop caring so much about petty things.

Some people take their time to reply. It’s just how they are. Let them be. Give them the benefit of doubt. If you’re important to them, I’m sure they will come around, text you back and make things even with you. Then you will probably realize you were just being silly.

Until then, stay sane!

  6. Great post. I am still an old fashioned communicator - you want to talk to me, pick up the phone and call - i am soooooo bad at getting back to people when they text or message me. (could be why everyone i know is paranoid something is always wrong---- ha!)

  9. These are some very nice points.. It's so true that's these thoughts stem from insecurity.. Often we give so much importance to texting these days.. But I'd say.. If you really want to connect or have so. Won't urgent work.. Pick up the phone and call... Saves you all the time thinking, contemplating and waiting ☺️
